The Design Process
Each project is different. Each customer is different. But there are a few steps in the process of getting a design project done that are the same.
Below I have created a timeline of a Logo Design process.
Contact
Request a Quote
Contact me for a quote.
Include as much information as possible to minimize a number of follow up questions. I will need to know the type of business, the Name, tag line (if you have one or would like me to come up with ideas), your desired style (modern/clean, vintage, hand made, abstract, etc), and how quickly you need the project done.
Estimate
Get the Quote
After all of my questions are answered, I will provide you with a PDF document.
The Quote/Estimate document includes the estimated cost of the log project, terms and conditions, and instructions for sending the deposit via PayPal.
Deposit
Send Content
After you have reviewed and agreed to the Estimate Document, and paid the deposit, send me any final content as requested.
I add the project to my design schedule.
Note: Terms and timelines of the estimate may be negotiated. Increasing the number of email communications.
Draft
Get Draft One
After payment and content is received, I will make the first draft for review. A logo will include 2-4 ideas to get us started.
Depending on the project, the draft may only be a Black and White version, or the content may be full of “Fake Text” (lorem ipsum) if I am waiting on content.
This is the first chance for us to review how well the desired outcome is understood.
Note: All drafts and proofs will be watermarked.
Changes
Send Notes & Corrections
This is when you reflect on the direction and how well I interpreted them.
Now is the time to change course if needed.
Good notes include what you like, what you want to keep, what you are not sure about, and what you do not like.
Proof
Get a Proof
I take your notes and send a version(s) one step closer to completion.
This may include all new options or color options for your consideration. I will address and explain any technical concerns based on your notes. For instance, using green and blue is an issue for people with color blindness.
Changes 2
Send Corrections
You send notes and corrections based on the proof.
Proof 2
Get Another Proof
The cycle of Proofs and Corrections will continue until Final Approval is given.
Each estimate will note the number of corrections included in the price. Additional corrections will be charged by the hour.
Approval
Give Final Approval
No further changes are needed.
You give me official approval to make any technical changes for the final production files.
Invoice
Get final Invoice
You will receive confirmation of approval and the final invoice for the project.
This may include any additional hours for changes. As well as a list of the final files you will receive. If you want your logo for social media, I will include properly sized graphics for the platform.
Payment
Send Final Payment
You make the final payment for the project.
Final Files
Get Final Files
You receive the final file(s) of the project via email.
Next Project
You have another idea!
Because it is satisfying to see the final result at a quality you did not expect – you immediately have another project in mind while telling your friends about how easy it was!
We start the process over again.
